Making linux wireless work

Well, I got the onboard wireless card to work on this laptop. It’s a compaq presario v2000 and the wireless chipset is a Broadcom.
I tried using ndiswrapper and had a heck of a time finding the right M$oft drivers. Then it didn’t work. But I found a post on the ubuntu forums that linked to the broadcom firmware update. It’s a .deb package and should install easily with Debian friendly distros. If that link breaks I have a copy local I can post.

I also managed to get the Belkin USB dongle working. It’s model F5D7050 version 2000 apparently. I did use ndiswrapper for that one, and used the M$ucks drivers on the install CD. That works on this newer laptop, I’ll try it on the older compaq later.

yay. I’m happy
